NORTHRIDGE STATS
The American Red Cross served 1,729,630 Meals to effected persons in The San Fernando Valley and Burbank. We provided financial assistance to 33,631 families in need. We set up approximately 34 disaster shelters in the San Fernando Valley and 4 were in Burbank. We had a total of 22,004 Adults living in our shelters for approximately one month after the earthquake. All assistance was provided free of charge. We received volunteer assistance from many organizations including Southern Baptist Mens Convention Disaster unit, Southern California Radio Emergency Associated Communications Teams REACT, Burbank Emergency Amateur Radio Service BEARS, as well as the volunteer support from all American Red Cross Chapters in Southern California and the United States. Many lessons were learned by all volunteers on this natural disaster. Today all of us are better prepared, because of team work, disaster training, and the experiences lived thru then. Thru Volunteers working together we can do amazing things. All American Red Cross Disaster Assistance is a gift of the American people thru the Local and National disaster relief funds.
