Seniors 55+ Events

Parkinson's Support Group – Wednesday, May 14, 12:30pm: Every 2nd Wednesday.

Swinging Seniors “May Day” Dance – Thursday, May 15, 7-9:30pm: Dance to the swinging sounds of the Clyde Reasinger Band. May-pole not included! Admission is $6 ($5 for Swinging Seniors members). BSAC cardholders receive $1 discount.

Movie of the Month – Friday, May 16, 12:30pm: Presenting “The Wedding Singer.” A comedy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Every 3rd Friday.

Are you new to Joslyn? – Tuesday, May 20, 10am: We invite new comers to Joslyn (55 and over) for our free monthly “Information Program”. An RSVP Volunteer will answer questions about Joslyn’s services, programs and groups, and take you on a tour of the building. Held every 3rd Tuesday.

"Hear to Live. . . Live to Hear!" – Wednesday, May 21, 12:30pm: Learn about the latest in hearing aid technology and how you can improve your quality of life through better hearing. Speakers include Courlandt C. Warner, MA, CCC-A, Audiologist of the Burbank Hearing Clinic and Gary Dorf, AuD, Doctor of Audiology of the Widex Hearing Aid Co. A free hearing screening is included. This is a no-cost, no-obligation seminar. Please call (818) 238- 5353 to reserve a seat and hearing screening.

Free Hearing Screening – Friday, May 23, 9-11am: Court Warner, M.A., Audiologist, CCC will examine your ears, check your hearing, and if you have hearing loss, issue a form for a free amplified phone. Theresa Tong from the California Telephone Access Program will display phones and help you select the appropriate model. By appointment only – every 4th Friday.

Alzheimer’s & Other Dementia Support Group for Caregivers – Friday, May 23, 1pm: Every 4th Friday.

"5 Years in the Army & Around the World" – Tuesday, May 27, 10am: From 1940 to 1945, Roland Stewart served in the military as an Army photographer. During that time, his army career took him from the Toluca Lake Draft Board to the Far East. Roland will share his World War II photos, maps and experience with us. Join us for a lively exhibition and discussion as he paints a portrait of life during the War at home and abroad.

Healthy Living Lecture Series – Wednesday, June 4, 12:30 pm: “Preventative Medicine for Older Adults” with Dr. Ruby Minosa

LA Cinema Club Presentation – Wednesday, June 11, 12:30pm: Come learn about this fun social group and creative workshop in this presentation at Joslyn by Walter Gilmore. Walt will explain how members of all experience levels learn, share information, and motivate each other in the art of filmmaking and photography. Get involved in projects, themes, and contests. Walt was a combat photographer and assistant Director for TV. After retiring, his interests led him to ten years of amateur video production. Along with his wife, Pamela, Walt has won many international video awards and is currently serving as president of the Amateur Movie Makers Association. His group meets every fourth Wednesday at 7pm at the ‘Little White Chapel’ church in Burbank.

10th Annual Senior Prom at Joslyn – Saturday, June 14, 7-10pm: Dress to impress as you dance and enjoy the 15-piece big band “The Esquires”. Tickets are $10 each ($8 each with your BSAC card) and are on sale Tuesdays at 10-11am, or call (818) 238-5353 to make other arrangements.


Seniors 55+ Events - Continuing

Ukulele Class – Wednesdays, 3pm: Learn how to play. Each session is 2 hours. Must have your own ukulele. Fee is $3 per class ($2 with BSAC).

Knitting Class – Thursdays, 9:30am: Learn the basics of knitting or receive advanced training with RSVP Volunteer Maud Schreefel.

Ballet Stretch Fitness – Wednesdays, 9:30: Improve your balance, flexibility, and muscular stamina through ballet movement.

Have Bags Will Travel” – Our collection of travel and shopping bags are on sale at the Joslyn Front Desk. They come in various sizes and designs, including the larger wheel style. They’re a great birthday gift idea or a treat for yourself! Prices are $10 for wheel bags and back packs, $8 for totes, and $5 for small totes. Other items for sale include lap robes, quilted bags and more – hand-made by our craft groups. Samples are on display case in the front lobby. 

Providence Classes. Providence offers a variety of community programs to promote health and wellness. Educational seminars and classes, health screenings, support groups and a speakers bureau. Please visit...

AARP Driver Safety Program – AARP conducts a 4-hour refresher class at Joslyn. Persons who attend this class must have taken the initial 8-hour class (which is no longer available at Joslyn). They should also contact their insurance company to see if they will accept the 4- hour certificate. Held once a month on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 12:30pm. The class fee is $10. To place your name on the next available class, call (818) 238-5353, M-F, 9am-11am or 12n- 2pm. -
