Be Careful With The Power You Give Up!

Power of Attorney Fraud & Abuse

By Kenneth Brown

When we think of power what do we think of?  Is it the power of a plane?  A car?  Or is it the power of something we give to someone else?

If we become incapacitated due to illness or accident, have we made a provision to give someone else the Power to take care of our affairs?

You can do this by selecting a person that we trust, either in the family or a close friend and we give them a Power of Attorney, which can be for financial or for health care.  So if something does happen to us, they can sign checks, or make health decisions for us.

With the economy the way it is, we must be very careful who we choose.  The POA is a very useful tool if used in the right way, if it is given to the wrong person or persons it could cost you everything.

There seems to be a growing trend for some who have POA's, to do the wrong and illegal thing, which hurts everyone.  People have lost their savings, their homes, their dignity.

The bottom line, think very carefully who you want to make critical decisions for you, you can always change if you think you need to, but don't wait until it's too late.
