Lockheed Federal Credit Union Employees Give Donations, Time
'For The Troops'

Simi Valley, Calif. (November 2008) – A taste of home is what Lockheed Federal Credit Union (LFCU) employees are looking to send to U.S. troops in Afghanistan and Iraq this holiday season. LFCU employees, partnering with nonprofit organization For The Troops (FTT), assembled care packages November 13 for overseas receipt by the holidays at FTT Headquarters’, 2872 Cochran St. in Simi Valley. The credit union, with employees and some of its members, collected goods for care packages until November 10, and those goods were included in the care packages.

“Our employees believe in making a difference in our world community, as well as in our service areas,” Community relations specialist Alethia Calagias said.LFCU Employee Sandy Sam

“A number of our employees and members have loved ones serving in Afghanistan and Iraq, and we’re happy to send care packages to remind them that we care.”

In addition to hosting the drive, LFCU presented a $1,500 check to the organization November 13. During the last two years, For The Troops has shipped more than 6,500 care packages overseas, and LFCU will help increase that number.

“Lockheed Federal Credit Union’s support is tremendous,” For The Troops co-founder Paula Cornell said. “We’re so happy the credit union has opened its doors in Simi Valley to let the community participate by dropping off their donations.”

Items on the wish list include: batteries, baby wipes, beef jerky, blank holiday cards and stationery, CDs, canned tuna, DVDs, cotton swabs, hand sanitizer, lip balm, white athletic socks, granola and power bars. These items can be taken to LFCU’s Simi Valley branch at 153 E. Cochran Street, Suite 300, adjacent to the Courtyard® by Marriott.

“We intend to keep sending packages as long as our troops are stationed in Afghanistan and Iraq. We look forward to the day the troops come home,” For The Troops co-founder Janie Josephson said. “We’re inspired to make a difference and thank our men and women serving. It’s just a small part in the big picture.”

Everyone is encouraged to submit the names and addresses of friends and family serving overseas in Afghanistan and Iraq. Along with the memories of home, letters to troops will also go into the boxes. Children and adults can submit these letters of appreciation and thanks.
