City of Burbank
Back-to-School Celebration Offers Free School Supplies, Entertainment, Dental Exams for
Kids
Goal Is To Encourage School
Attendance and Lifelong Learning for Burbank Residents
BURBANK, Calif. (August 2008) -- The City of Burbank is
providing hundreds of area kids with the tools that they need for back-to-school at a
major event focused on instilling lifelong learning this Saturday, August 23 from
10:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. Called the Peyton-Grismer Back-to-School Celebration,
this free community festival gives Burbank kids the chance to pick up school supplies and
backpacks, get their haircut and even have dental exams, all for free.
In addition to free supplies, families will enjoy continuous live music,
folklorico dancing, juggling workshops, participatory arts & crafts events, games,
giveaways, and much more.
"Kids today need that extra encouragement to keep them focused on
learning," says Gabriela Flores, Community Resources Coordinator, City of Burbank.
"The idea here is to engage students and boost their desire to learn by demonstrating
community wide support for them to stay in school."
Last year, more than 250 backpacks and other supplies were distributed to
Burbank residents. This year, planners anticipate even larger attendance. The
Peyton-Grismer Back-to-School Celebration is located at 1922 Grismer Avenue in Earthwalk
Park (Peyton Avenue between Grismer Avenue & Glenoaks Boulevard in the City of
Burbank.)
