MAGNOLIA PARK SHIFTS INTO HIGH GEAR WITH 2ND ANNUAL BE-BOPPIN' IN THE PARK VINTAGE CAR SHOW AND STREET FESTIVAL

Saturday, August 23 from 3:00 to 9:00 P.M.

DOWNTOWN BURBANK, Calif. (August 2008) – Burbank’s most charming neighborhood will be filled with hundreds of vintage, pre-1972 cars from all over Southern California, stretched along four blocks of Magnolia Boulevard for the second annual Be-Boppin’ in the Park on Saturday, August 23 from 3:00 to 9:00 P.M. This outdoor community street celebration attracted more than 12,000 people last year, who enjoyed checking out the array of vintage cars, soaking up the vibe, wandering the neighborhood and discovering Magnolia Park’s one-of-a-kind shops and restaurants. A true old-fashioned experience evoking the nostalgia of 1950s America, Be-Boppin’ in the Park is free and open to the public.

There’s even a chance to rub elbows with the stars, as Jay Leno, who spent several hours browsing the event in 2007, will be in attendance once again. There’s an award named in his honor, the Jay Leno Award for the funniest automobile.

In addition to more than 200 vintage automobiles on display between Hollywood Way and California, there will be continuous entertainment at the Main Stage and dance floor, including the lively rock ‘n roll styling of The Sardo Brothers, (3-4:30 P.M.) as well as the retro sound of The Hot Rod Trio, an Orange County – based rockabilly band. Formed in 1991, this popular group unites the love of vintage cars with great sounds from the era and features guitarist/vocalist Buddy Dughi, bassist Suzy Dughi and drummer Pete Bonny (5-6:30 P.M.). Other bands are to be announced.

Awards for the best automobiles will be given at 7:00 P.M. at the Main Stage, with prize categories such as the Burbank Mayor Award for most All-American car, Police Chief Award for the coolest car, Fire Chief Award for the hottest car, Magnolia Park Partnership Award for the most vintage car and the Jay Leno Award for the funniest car.

Be-Boppin’ in the Park is presented by the Magnolia Park Partnership, which is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the Magnolia Park district. Magnolia Park includes an established residential community of 3,000 homes and more than 500 neighborhood businesses on Magnolia Boulevard between Buena Vista and the city limit, and Hollywood Way between Clark and Chandler. Other activities produced by the partnership include the Magical Magnolia Bicycle Tour in May and Holiday in the Park in November. www.magnoliaparkburbank.org
