BURBANK COMMUNITY YMCA'S PHYSICAL
EDUCATION PROGRAM RECOGNIZED
The Burbank Community YMCA was recognized by the Burbank Unified School District
for providing physical education in five elementary schools in the Burbank area.
The award ceremony took place in the Council Chambers. Board of Education
President, Debbie Kukta made the presentation along with Joel Shapiro, Deputy
Superintendent.
Currently, the Burbank Community YMCA is providing physical education to second
grade classes. However, over the past seven years, it has filled this gap for
third and fourth grade as well.
"It's a privilege and an honor to be able to work with the Burbank Unified
School District" said Sr. Program Director for Health and Fitness, Jodi
Reneaud. "Our YMCA has a long history of taking our expertise outside the Y
building and right into the community. Partnering with the elementary schools is
a great fit for both organizations."
Added, Interim CEO, Theresa Zapata, "We could not maintain this program without
the generous contribution of the Forest Lawn Foundation. The grant money they
award us makes this all possible. It is our hope that we can expand this program
to all eleven elementary schools in the very near future."
