Charley Morey – Toni Scott – John Paul Thornton June 4-24, 2010 Three compelling visionaries present artworks which address human dignity, the passionate longing for spirituality, and the all-pervasive natural world which grounds us all. "Three Artists — One World" focuses on three successful mid-career artists: Toni Scott, John Paul Thornton and Charlie Morey, who offer a delightfully diverse range of media, all based upon what compels them most: the discovery of meaning in today's world. Ms. Scott, who recently completed her "Bloodlines" installation for a two-year run at the California African American Museum in Los Angeles, has worked in almost all art media, including paint, sculpture, photography, digital, and found objects. Mr. Thornton is known for his "Missing Children - Portraits of Hope" series of paintings derived from missing children flyers received in the mail and for his large-scale figure paintings inspired by religious ceremonies from around the globe. Mr. Morey has devoted his creative life to photography and exploration, where he found thoughtful images in such visually fulfilling locations as his home state of Maine, the big island of Hawaii, Yosemite National Park (where he served as an Artist-in-Residence, producing an exhibit called "Digital Yosemite"), and other locations in California, where all three artists currently reside. Opening reception is on Friday, June 4, 7:00 - 9:00 pm. The Creative Arts Center Gallery is located at 1100 West Clark Avenue, Burbank, California. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Please contact the Gallery at 818.238.5397 for additional information.

It will be a fundraiser supporting the church’s involvement with the Geneva Street Project for the San Gabriel Valley ’s Habitat for Humanity. Glendale First United Methodist has a long standing commitment to Habitat for Humanity, most recently with the Kenwood Street homes in Glendale . The Geneva Street Project will be Habitat’s first “green” project. Go back in time with us to 1884 as our local town folk have gathered to celebrate the Founder’s Day Celebration festivities when a murder will occur. The sheriff will investigate the crime but it will not interfere with the celebration. While the luncheon progresses, various suspects and witnesses will be questioned. During dessert, the case will be turned over to the guests, acting as the grand jury, who will decide who is guilty and innocent. This delightful production was first staged to kick off Burbank First United Methodist’s 125 year anniversary celebrations. Next it traveled to the Magnolia Park Methodist Church in Burbank and then the Glendale City Seventh Day Adventist Church . It has become a cooperative effort among local these churches to bring excellent entertainment to the community and help raise funds for specific needs. Everyone is welcomed to join us for a fun filled time. Tickets are $25.00 per person or 2 for $40.00 and reservations are being taken through the church office at 1-818-243-2105. The performance begins at 1:00 pm in Carlson Fellowship Center at Glendale First United Methodist Church at 134 North Kenwood St. , Glendale CA 91206 . |
