BURBANK YOUTH BOARD PACK FOR SUCCESS
|
|

|
Members of the Burbank Youth Board proudly display the
backpacks they filled with basic school supplies during
their June meeting. The Youth Board volunteered their time
to participate in the Pack for Success project which
provides students, from homeless families, with the
necessary tools to be successful in school. The Burbank Noon
Lions Club donated the backpacks, specifically designed to
meet the needs of students, which helped kickstart the Youth
Board's project. Members followed up by soliciting donations
of pencils, paper, rulers etc., to fill each backpack, from
local businesses and the community.
The Youth Board is comprised of a representative from each
public and private middle and high school in Burbank and six
At-Large members up through the age of 20. Their objective
is to be a communication link between the youth of Burbank
and the city leadership. The new Channel 6 TV show,
currently called "Teens in Action" stemmed from
the request of local youth to have a cable show presence to
address teen issues. Additional programs and projects are in
the works as a result of the input of Youth Board members
and other youth-driven committees speaking on behalf of
their fellow classmates. |
