Wednesday, January 7. FAMILY FILM FESTIVAL - The second installment in the Chronicles of Narnia, PRINCE CASPIAN tells of the Pevensie children who help to ward off an evil king and restore the rightful heir to the throne. Runtime is 144 minutes; rated PG. 4pm at the Buena Vista Branch Library. (This film will also be shown at the Central Library on Wednesday, January 21)

Wednesday, January 7. MIDDLE SHOOL BOOK CLUB will be discussing A Mango-Shaped Space, by Wendy Mass. To join this club, please call Melissa at 818 238-5589. 7pm at the Buena Vista Branch Library.

Thursday, January 8. Help adults improve reading, writing and spelling skills or work with children to improve phonic, sight word, and fluency skills. Thursday, January 15. PRE-SCHOOL PAJAMA PARTY. A special evening of stories and a short movie! Children may wear their pajamas and bring their favorite stuffed animal. Bring a blanket or pillow to sit on. 6:30pm at the Burbank Central Library. (This program will be repeated at the Buena Vista Branch Library on Thursday, January 29 at 7:00pm).

Friday, January 16. FRIDAY MOVIE MATINEE. “And the Oscar Goes To….” THE MORE THE MERRIER! Portly Charles Coburn makes a cute if unlikely cupid in George Stevens' smart 1943 romantic comedy. Jean Arthur is girl next door and big-city sophisticate rolled up in one bubbly package as Connie Milligan, a single woman in Washington D.C. who sublets a room in her small apartment during the wartime housing crisis. Her new roommate, the deadpan eccentric Mr. Dingle (Coburn, who won an Oscar for his rascally performance), dislikes her stiff, bureaucratic beau and takes it upon himself to find her an appropriate boyfriend, namely the soft-spoken industrial engineer Joe Carter (Joel McCrea), whom Dingle puts up in his half of the apartment. 2pm at the Burbank Central Library.

Saturday, January 17. LE PETIT CINEMA – Little Films with Big Hearts. Get ready to rock out with the most entertaining "golden oldies" you'll ever meet! Wednesday, January 21. COFFEE & CONVERSATION. Historical mystery fans will enjoy meeting Jeri Westerson, author of VEIL OF LIES: A MEDIEVAL NOIR. Her debut series features Crispin Guest, a disgraced knight, more Sam Spade than Brother Cadfael. Thursday, January 22. SLIDE SHOW AND LECTURE. Matt Ventimiglia will present a fascinating lecture and slide show about his journey to the icy North Pole this past August aboard a nuclear-powered icebreaker. Fantastic slides!!
