The Burbank Public Library is partnering with the Huntington Library to present The Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts. The Huntington was awarded a grant to host a Big Read celebration of Jack London's The Call of the Wild in order to promote the sheer enjoyment of reading and reach out to nonreaders and readers at risk. The Burbank Public Library will present a series of special programs starting with acclaimed actor Michael Oakes' powerful portrayal of Jack London. Erika Koss, Literature Specialist for the National Endowment for the Arts, will discuss Jack London within the context of other California writers such as John Steinbeck and Robinson Jeffers. This lecture will be held at the Buena Vista Branch Library on Thursday, October 9, at 7 PM. 818.238.5620.

Sue Hodson, curator of literary manuscripts for The Huntington, will present an illustrated lecture on "Jack London, Photographer," on Thursday, October 30, at 7 PM. Buena Vista Branch Library, 818-238-5620.

The Burbank Central Library will screen two fascinating documentary film: Alaska: Big America will be shown on Saturday, October 11, at 2 PM and Great Writers: Jack London will show at 2 PM on Saturday, October 18. All programs are free to the public. 818-238-5600.
